Dr. Harvey Finkelstein is a Pain Management Specialist who has been practicing medicine for more than three decades. He completed five years of residency at Long Island Jewish Hospital and University Hospital at Stony Brook as well as two Fellowships (Pediatric and Cardiac Anesthesia; Pain Management). Before opening his own private pain management clinic in 2000 – Pain Care Medicine of Long Island, PLLC, Plainview – Harvey Finkelstein was attending physician at the Pain Management Center at University Hospital and he was a specialist in anesthesiology and pain management in a variety of hospitals and private practices throughout Long Island.
He was the past Director of Anesthesia at Central General Hospital and Plainview Hospital in Plainview, New York from 1992 to 2000, when he devoted himself to the full time practice of pain management. Presently, his interest is in office based pain management and he practices out of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bethpage, part of the Catholic Health Care system of Long Island.
In addition to his private practice, Dr. Harvey Finkelstein has, along with only one other pain physician from Long Island, been an examiner for the World Institute of Pain’s Fellowship examination (FIPP) for four years. Dr. Finkelstein has been to both Maastricht and Budapest to participate in the exam – a rigorous 3-part examination testing oral, written and practical aspects, judging the examinee on knowledge and performance of 4 nerve blocks on cadavers. This examination sets out to establish expertise in the specialty of Pain Medicine.
He received his medical degree from the Sackler School of Medicine in 1981 and is a member of the World Institute of Pain, the International Spine Interventional Society, for which he served on the Standards Committee for one year. In addition, he is a member of the New York State Pain Society.
